Cherly Fox

Many people don't understand the depth of planning that a respectful and memorable funeral takes. Though death is not something we like to think about, it eventually finds all of us. Planning your funeral while in good spirits and good health relieves an enormous amount of pressure off the backs of family and friends. Though difficult to think about, planning your funeral brings peace of mind and peace to those you love, leaving you to enjoy life to the fullest.

Making Funeral Arrangements

It's your choice to involve close family or friends in your funeral arrangements. If not, the funeral home of your choice can take care of all your needs. If you choose someone close to you to assist in planning, choose someone who can be privy to the sensitive details that come with a funeral.

Setting a Contract

A funeral is actually a contract carried out by the funeral home after the passing of the individual for whom the contract is purchased. Laws vary by state as to who can design and sign these contracts, in some states only funeral directors are authorized to do so. As with any important document, check for the proper credentials.

The contract, provided by a professional funeral home like Ryan-Parke Funeral Home, should include a complete list of services to be performed in the event of a passing. Usually these prearranged services will be broken up into services and merchandise selections. Some examples of service selections are:

  • Services of a director in lieu of a religious leader
  • Transportation
  • Embalming
  • Facilities for visitation
  • Music, vehicles, etc.

Merchandise selections could include:

  • Casket or urn
  • Vault
  • Flowers and cards

Funding a Funeral

Removing the financial stress of a funeral from family and friends is a gift always appreciated. By law, the funeral home will provide you with the cost of each of the selected services. Once a contract is signed, you can determine the payment method that best fits your situation.

Funerals are often paid for through life insurance policies, trust funds or cash. For certain items such as a casket, flowers or other commodities, ask for a guaranteed price. This ensures that you pay the same amount no matter the cost of the commodity at the time of passing.

Cemetery Arrangements

Being laid to rest in a location that those close to you can visit in comfort is important to most people. Visit some ideal locations to ensure the plot meets your religious requirements and your chosen vault or headstone will be allowed. Dealing with these small details will ensure a sweet and peaceful experience for all those attending.
